Scriptural Rosary: Latin & English | JOYFUL MYSTERIES

The Joyful Mysteries

DROP down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the Just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.

GOD sent his Son, made of a woman, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And if a son, an heir also.

Ps: Lord, Thou hast blessed Thy land:
Thou hast turned back the captivity of Jacob.

(Isaias 14; 45:8; Galatians 4:4-7; Ps. 84:2)

Latin
The First Joyful Mystery:
The Annunciation

HEAR ye therefore, O house of David:
A virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
and his name shall be called Emmanuel.

I WILL put enmities between thee and the woman …

I AM the Mother of Fair Love.
In me is all grace of the Way and of the Truth,
in me is all hope of life and of virtue.

Ps: All the rich among the people shall entreat thy countenance:
after her shall virgins be brought to the King:
her neighbours shall be brought to thee in gladness and rejoicing.

(Isaias 7:13, 14; Genesis 3:15; Sirach 24:24-25; St. Luke 1:48; Ps. 44:13, 15, 16)

Latin

The SECOND Joyful Mystery:
The Visitation

MY soul doth magnify the Lord.
For behold from henceforth
all generations shall call me blessed.

AND whence is this to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

As soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.

And blessed art thou that hast believed,
because those things shall be accomplished
that were spoken to thee by the Lord.

Ps: My heart hath uttered a good word:
I speak my works to the King.

(St. Luke 1:46, 48, 43-45; Ps. 44:2)

Latin

The THIRD Joyful Mystery:
The Nativity

AND the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.

FOR while all things were in quiet silence, and the night was in the midst of her course, Thy almighty Word leapt down from heaven from thy royal throne.

A CHILD is born to us, and a Son is given to us:
whose government is upon His shoulder:
and His name shall be called Wonderful, the Prince of Peace.

(Wisdon 18:14-15; St. John 1:14; Isaias 9:6)

Latin

The FOURTH Joyful Mystery:
The Presentation

My eyes have seen Thy salvation, A light to the revelation of the gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted.

Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth:
I came not to send peace, but the sword.

Ps: We have received Thy mercy, O God, in the midst of Thy temple;
according to Thy name, O God, so also is Thy praise unto the ends of the earth:
Thy right hand is full of justice.

(St. Luke 2:30, 32, 34; St. Matthew 10:34: Ps. 47:10-11)

Latin
The FIFTH Joyful Mystery:
The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple

Did you not know, that I must be about my father’s business?

Ps: How lovely are Thy tabernacles, O Lord of Hosts;
my soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord.

(St. Luke 2:49; Ps. 83:2-3)

Latin

Scriptural Rosary: Latin & English | SORROWFUL MYSTERIES

The Sorrowful Mysteries

OUR Lord Jesus Christ humbled himself unto death, even to the death of the cross: for which cause God also hath exalted Him, and hath given Him a name which is above all names.

Ps: The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever:
to generation and generation.

(Philippians 2:8-9; Ps. 88:2)

Latin
The First SORROWFUL Mystery:
The Agony in the Garden

And almost all things, according to the law, are cleansed with blood: and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

O all ye that pass by the way, attend and see if there is any sorrow like to My sorrow.

(Hebrews 9:22; Lamentations 1:12)

Latin

The SECOND SORROWFUL Mystery:
The Scourging at the Pillar

He was wounded for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.

Thou hast redeemed us, O Lord, in Thy Blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation: and hast made us to our God a kingdom.

The mercies of the Lord I will sing forever:
I will show forth Thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.

(Isias 53:5; Apocalypse 5:9-10; Ps. 88:2)

Latin

The THIRD SORROWFUL Mystery:
The Crowning with Thorns

It is expedient that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

Shall I crucify your king?
The chief priests answered: We have no king but Caesar.

Ps: Thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, O Lord:
and hast set him over the works of thy hands.

(St. John 11:50; 19:15; Ps. 8:6-7)

Latin

The FOURTH SORROWFUL Mystery:
The Carriage of the Cross

And he took the wood for the holocaust, and laid it upon Isaac his son. Where is the victim for the holocaust?
God will provide himself a victim for an holocaust, my son.

He hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows.

(Genesis 22:6-8; Isias 53:4)

Latin
The FIFTH SORROWFUL Mystery:
The Crucifixion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ

Ps: The council of the malignant hath beseiged me. They have dug my hands and my feet.

O daughter of Jerusalem? to what shall I equal thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Sion? for great as the sea is thy destruction.

Jesus saith to His Mother:
Woman, behold thy son.
After that He saith to the disciple:
Behold thy Mother.
And from that hour the disciple took her to his own.

I saw water flowing from the right side of the temple, alleluia.

(Ps. 21:17; Lamentations 2:13; St. John 19:26-27; Vidi Aquam [cf. Ezekial 47:1])

Latin

shout unto God, with the voice of exultation.

and the ark of His testament was seen in His temple.

Her neighbours shall be brought to Thee in gladness and rejoicing.
