Suggested: Commence your prayers to our Blessed Mother with one of the antiphons below; perhaps rotate throughout the week.

O HOLY Mary, Virgin of virgins, Mother and daughter of the King of kings! bestow upon us thy consolation, that through thee we may deserve the reward of the heavenly kingdom, and reign with the elect of God unto all eternity.

O HOLY Mary, most compassionate of the compassionate, and holiest of all the holy, make intercession for us. Through thee, O Virgin, may He receive our prayers, Who, born for us of thee, reigneth above the skies; that so, of His loving kindness, our sins may be cleansed away.

O GLORIOUS Mother of God, Mary, ever Virgin, who alone wast found worthy to bear the Lord of all, and though a virgin, to nurse the King of Angels; be graciously mindful of us, that we, being upheld by thy care, may deserve to attain to heavenly kingdoms.

O HOLY Mother of God, who didst worthily deserve to conceive Him Whom the whole world cannot contain, cleanse away our sins by thy loving intercession, that we who have been redeemed, may through thee be able to ascend to the seat of perpetual glory, where, with Him, thy Son, thou reignest forever.

HOLY Mary, be thou help to the helpless, a strength to the fearful, a comfort to the sorrowful; pray for the people, plead for the clergy, make intercession for all women vowed to God; may all feel thine assistance who keep thy holy remembrance.

Liturgical Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Alma Redemptoris

MOTHER of Christ! hear thou thy people’s cry,
Star of the deep, and Portal of the sky!
Mother of Him who thee from nothing made,
Sinking we strive, and call to thee for aid:
Oh, by that joy which Gabriel brought to thee,
Thou Virgin first and last, let us thy mercy see.

Ave, Regina

HAIL! O Queen of heav’n enthron’d!
Hail! by angels mistress own’d!
Root of Jesse, Gate of morn,
Whence the world’s true Light wast born.
Glorious Virgin! joy to thee,
Loveliest whom in heaven they see.
Fairest thou where all are fair!
Plead with Christ our sins to spare.

Hail Thou Star of Ocean
(Ave Maris Stella)

HAIL thou Star of Ocean,
Portal of the Sky.
Ever Virgin Mother,
Of the Lord Most High.

O! By Gabriel’s ‘Ave’
Uttered long ago.
Eva’s name reversing,
Established peace below.

Break the captives’ fetters,
Light on blindness pour.
All our ills expelling,
Every bliss implore.

Show thyself a Mother,
Offer Him our sighs,
Who for us incarnate,
did not thee despise.

Virgin of all virgins,
to thy shelter take us.
Gentlest of the gentle,
chaste and gentle make us.

Still as on we journey,
Help our weak endeavour,
Till with thee and Jesus,
We rejoice forever.

Through the Highest Heaven,
To the Almighty Three:
Father, Son and Spirit,
One same glory be.

Grace was poured forth on thy lips; therefore hath the Lord blessed thee forever.

Daily Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Prayer of Petition (St. Alphonsus)

To be said before an image or statue of our Blessed Lady

MOST holy and immaculate Virgin! O my Mother! thou who art the Mother of my Lord, the Queen of the world, the advocate, hope, and refuge of sinners! I, the most wretched amongst them, now come to thee.

I honour thee, great Queen, and give thee thanks for the many favours thou hast bestowed on me even unto this day; most of all do I thank thee for having saved me from hell, which I have so often deserved.

I love thee, Lady most worthy of all love, and, by the love which I bear thee, I promise ever in the future to honour thee, and to do what in me lies to win others to thy love. In thy intercession I put all my trust, all my hope of salvation. Receive me as thy servant, and cover me with the mantle of thy protection, thou who art the Mother of Mercy!

And since thou art so powerful with God, implore Him to deliver me from all temptations, and obtain for me the grace ever to overcome them. From thee I implore a true love for Jesus Christ, and the grace of a happy death. O my Mother! by the love thou bearest to Almighty God, I beseech thee to be at all times my helper, but above all at the last moment of my life. Cease not thy supplications until thou seest me safe in heaven, there for endless ages to bless thee and sing of thy praises. Such is my hope. Amen.

Magnificat |Canticle of Mary

MY SOUL doth magnify: the LORD.
And my spirit hath rejoiced: in GOD my Saviour.
For He hath regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He that is mighty hath done great things unto me: and holy is His Name.
And His mercy is from generation to generation: unto them that fear Him.
He hath shewed strength with His arm: He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich He hath sent empty away.
He hath upholden His servant Israel: being mindful of His mercy.
As He spake unto our fathers: to Abraham and his seed for ever.
(St. Luke 1:46-55; Raccolta, 1910)

Gloria Patri …

Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!

The Memorare

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy clemency hear and answer me. Amen.
(Pre-1968 Indulgence of 3 years)

THOU art inviolate, undefiled and chaste, O Mary.
Though hast been made the resplendent gate of heaven.
O loving and dearest Mother of Christ,
Accept our devout acclamations in praise of thee.
That our minds and bodies may be pure,
Devoted hearts and lips now implore thee.
Through thy sweetest sounding prayers,
Gain us pardon forever.
O kind one, who alone didst remain inviolate.

An Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

O MARY, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart.

We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families, our country. We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee, and may share in the benefits of thy motherly benediction. And that this act of consecration may be truly efficacious and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and our first Holy Communion. We pledge ourselves to profess cour-ageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics who are duly submissive to all the directions of the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him. We pledge ourselves to keep the commandments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord’s Day. We likewise pledge ourselves to make the consoling practices of the Christian religion, and above all, Holy Communion, an integral part of our lives, in so far as we shall be able so to do.

Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God and loving Mother of men, to devote ourselves whole-heartedly to the service of thy blessed cult, in order to hasten and assure, through the sovereignty of thine Immaculate Heart, the coming of the kingdom of the Sacred Heart of thine adorable Son, in our own hearts and in those of all men, in our country and in all the world. As in heaven, so on earth. Amen.

Queen Assumed into Heaven

O IMMACULATE Virgin, Mother of God and Mother of Humanity, we believe with all the fervour of our faith in thy triumphal Assumption both in body and in soul into heaven where thou art acclaimed as Queen by all the choirs of angels and all the legions of saints; we unite with them to praise and bless the Lord who has exalted thee above all other pure creatures and to offer thee the tribute of our devotion and our love.

We know that thy gaze, which on earth watched over the humble and suffering humanity of Jesus, in heaven is filled with the vision of that humanity glorified and with the vision of uncreated Wisdom, and that the joy of thy soul in the direct contemplation of the adorable Trinity causes thine heart to throb with overwhelming tenderness; and we, poor sinners whose body weights down the flight of the soul, beg thee to purify our hearts so that, whilst we remain below, we may learn to see God and God alone in the beauties of his creatures.

We trust that thy merciful eyes may deign to gaze down upon our miseries and anguish, upon our struggles and our weaknesses; that thy countenance may smile upon our joys and our victories; that thou mayest hear the voice of Jesus saying to thee of each one of us, as He once said to thee of His Beloved Disciple:

“Behold thy son,” and we who call upon thee as our Mother, we, like St. John, take thee as the guide, strength and consolation of our mortal life.

We are inspired by the certainty that thine eyes, which wept over the earth crimsoned by the Blood of Jesus, are yet turned toward this world racked by wars and persecutions, the oppression of the just and the weak. From the shadows of this vale of tears, we seek in thy heavenly assistance, tender mercy, comfort for our aching hearts, and help in the trials of Church and country.

We believe finally that in the glory wherest thou reign, clothed with the sun and crowned with stars, thou art, after Jesus, the joy and gladness of all the angels and the saints, and from this earth, over which we tread as pilgrims, comforted by our faith in the future resurrection, we look to thee our life, our sweetness, our hope; draw us onward with the sweetness of thy voice, so that one day, after our exile, thou may show us Jesus, the blessed fruit of thy womb.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.

(Pope St. Pius X)

Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima

O MOST HOLY Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, thou wert pleased to appear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore thee, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Hail Mary of Gold

HAIL MARY, White Lily of the Glorious and always serene Trinity. Hail brilliant Rose of the Garden of Heavenly Delights.

O thou, by whom God wanted to be born and by whose milk the King of Heaven wanted to be nourished! Nourish our souls with effusions of Divine Grace. Amen.

Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary

SORROWFUL and Immaculate Heart of Mary, dwelling pure and holy, cover my soul with thy maternal protection, so that being ever faithful to the Voice of Jesus, it responds to His Love and obeys His Divine Will.

I wish, O, my Mother, to keep unceasingly before me thy co-redemption in order to live intimately with thy Heart that is totally united to the Heart of thy Divine Son.

Fasten me to this Heart by thy own virtues and sorrows. Protect me always. Amen.

(Composed by 20th Century Belgian seer, Berthe Petit)

Consecrate the Last 2 Hours of our Life to the Virgin Mary

PROSTRATED at thy feet and humiliated by my sins, but full of confidence in thee, O Mary! I beg thee to accept the petition my heart is going to make. It is for my last moments. Dear Mother, I wish to request thy protection and maternal love so that in that decisive moment thou wilt do all thy love can suggest on my behalf.

To thee, O Mother of my soul, I consecrate the last two hours of my life. Come to my side to receive my last breath and when death has cut the thread of my days, tell Jesus, presenting to Him my soul, “I love it.” Those words alone will be enough to procure for me the benediction of my God and the happiness of seeing thee for all eternity.

I put my trust in thee, my Mother, and hope it will not be in vain.

O Mary! Pray for thy child and lead me to Jesus!

Mary Immaculate, Star of the Morning (Hymn)

MARY Immaculate, star of the morning,
Chosen before the creation began,
Chosen to bring, for thy bridal adorning,
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.

Here, in an orbit of shadow and sadness
Veiling thy splendour, thy course thou hast run;
Now thou art throned in all glory and gladness,
Crowned by the hand of thy Saviour and Son.

Sinners, we worship thy sinless perfection;
Fallen and weak, for thy pity we plead;
Grant us the shield of thy sovereign protection,
Measure thine aid by the depth of our need.

Frail is our nature, and strict our probation,
Watchful the foe that would lure us to wrong:
Succour our souls in the hour of temptation,
Mary Immaculate, tender and strong.

See how the wiles of the serpent assail us,
See how we waver and flinch in the fight:
Let thine immaculate merit avail us,
Make of our weakness a proof of thy might.

Bend from thy throne at the voice of our crying,
Bend to this earth which thy footsteps have trod;
Stretch out thine arms to us living and dying,
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.

May the Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Conception be our health and our protection.

Prayer to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour

O MOTHER of Perpetual Succour, grant that I may always invoke thy most powerful name, for thy name is help in life, salvation in death.

Ah, Mary most pure, Mary most sweet, let thy name henceforth be the breath of my life. Tarry not, O Lady, to come to my succour, whenever I call upon thee, for in all the wants which shall befall me, I wilt never cease to call upon thee, and to repeat again and again: Mary, Mary!

What comfort, what sweetness, what confidence, what tenderness, does my soul feel in the mere mention of thy name, in the very thought of thee! I thank the Lord for having given thee, for my good, this name so sweet, so amiable, so powerful.

But merely to pronounce thy name is not enough for me. I wish to do so out of love: I wish that love may remind me to call thee always, Mother of Perpetual Succour. Amen.

Pater Noster … Ave Maria … Gloria Patri
(For the intentions of the Holy Father)

Prayer to Our Lady taught to St. Gertrude

O MOST chaste Virgin Mary, I beseech thee by that unspotted purity wherewith thou didst prepare for the Son of God a dwelling of delight in thy virginal womb, that by thine intercession I may be cleansed of every stain of sin.

O most humble Virgin Mary, I beseech thee by that most profound humility whereby thou didst merit to be raised high above all the choirs of the angels and the saints, that by thine intercession all my negligence may be expiated.

O most loving Virgin Mary I beseech thee, by that ineffable love which united thee so closely and so inseparably to God, that by thine intercession I may obtain an abundance of all merits. Amen.

Mother of Divine Grace, pray for us!

Prayer of St. Hildefonsus to the Blessed Virgin Mary

O MY SOVEREIGN, and Mother of my God, thou art blessed amongst all women, pure amongst all virgins, and Queen of all the Heavenly Host: all nations call thee blessed. Vouchsafe that I may publish as much as possible thy greatness, that I may love thee to the utmost of my power, and that I may serve thee with all the capacity of my soul. Amen.

O that I may learn to praise thee, most sacred Virgin!

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin to Obtain the Love of Jesus and a Happy Death

O MARY! Thou who so much desirest to see Jesus loved, if thou lovest me, this is the favour that I now ask of thee, to obtain for me a great love for Jesus Christ. Thou obtainest from thy Son whatever thou pleasest; pray, then, for me, and console me. Obtain for me a great love for thee, who of all creatures, art the most loving and beloved of God. And through that grief which thou didst suffer on Calvary, when thou didst behold Jesus expire on the Cross, obtainest for me a happy death, that by loving Jesus and thee, my Mother, I may come to love thee forever in heaven. Amen.

Prayer for Health of Body and Soul

MOST holy Virgin, Mother of the Incarnate Word, treasure-house of grace, and refuge of us wretched sinners, with lively faith we have recourse to thy motherly love, and ask of thee the grace of ever doing God’s will and thine. In thy most holy hands we place our hearts, and of thee we ask health of body and soul, and as we have the same hope that thou, our most loving Mother, wilt hear us, we say to thee with lively faith:

 Ave Maria… (x3)

Let us pray.
DEFEND, we beseech Thee, O Lord! through the intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary ever Virgin, Thy servants from all infirmity, and mercifully deign to guard them, prostrate in the sincerity of their hearts before Thee, against the snares of the enemy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Mother of God, Defend us from False Shepherds

MOST tender Mother of God, bulwark against heresies, we come before thee to implore thy protection against the heresy of Modernism, which has permeated into the Church as a fifth column. Keep us standing fast in the true Catholic faith, may we never be lured by the maxims of the world, that seek to blend with the perennial Truth to contaminate it and lead us into error.

Do not allow these enemies, we see infiltrated into the heart of the Church, to lead us away from the Revelation made by God. Help us to be determined to lose our lives before abandoning our Catholic faith. We know and believe that the Revealed Doctrine is immutable and unchangeable. Most holy Virgin Mary, grant that we may always be eager for the glory of God, and give us a great zeal and love for the Church founded by thine divine Son, so that we may defend her as thine soldiers from her internal enemies, who with a complete lack of humility, attack the holiest of all the work of Christ, putting their designs for her ruin into operation not from without but from within; so that there is no part of Catholic truth from which they hold their hand, none that they do not strive to corrupt under the pretext of renovation.

Most holy Virgin Mary, save our nations, preserve our faith and defend us from false shepherds! Amen.

Ave Regina Caelorum

HAIL, O Queen of Heaven.
Hail, O Lady of Angels

From whom unto the world a light has arisen:

Lovely beyond all others,
Farewell, most beautiful maiden,
And pray for us to Christ.

℣. Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O sacred Virgin.
℟. Give me strength against thine enemies.

Let us pray.
We beseech thee, O Lord, mercifully to assist our infirmity: that like as we do now commemorate Blessed Mary Ever-Virgin, Mother of God; so by the help of her intercession we may die to our former sins and rise again to newness of life. Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

To the Mother of God, by St. Cyril

GLORY be to thee, O Holy Mother of God, masterpiece of the universe, shining star, lustre of virginity, sceptre of faith, indestructible temple, in whom He dwelt Whom immensity cannot contain. Virgin Mother of Him Who, blessed forever, cometh to us in the name of the Lord, by thee is the Trinity glorified, the Holy Cross praised and adored throughout the world, the heavens art made joyful and the angels to tremble with joy, the devils put to flight, and man enabled to pass from slavery to the freedom of heaven.

Through thee idolatrous creatures hath known incarnate Truth, the faithful hath received Baptism, churches hath been erected in all parts of the earth. By thine assistance the Gentiles hath been brought to repentance. And finally, through thee, the only Son of God, source of all light, hast shone upon the eyes of the blind, who wert siting in the shadow of death. O Virgin Mother, who can speak thy praises? But let us make our laud of them according to such powers as art given to us, at the same time adoring God thy Son, the chaste spouse of the Church, to Whom art due all honour and glory, now and forever. Amen.

(St. Cyril – 431 A.D.)
