Prayer to Sacred Shoulder Wound
For a Child is born , and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder. (Is. 9, 6)
O Loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I, miserable sinner, salute and worship the most Sacred Wound of Thy Shoulder on which Thou didst bear Thy heavy Cross which so tore Thy Flesh and laid bare Thy Bones as to inflict on Thee an anguish greater than any other wound of Thy Most Blessed Body.
I adore Thee, O Jesus most sorrowful; I praise and glorify Thee, and give Thee thanks for this most sacred and painful Wound, beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain, and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy Cross to be merciful to me, a sinner, to forgive me all my mortal and venial sins, and to lead me on towards Heaven along the Way of Thy Cross. Amen.
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Thy Sacred Wounds.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux sought to foster devotion to the Shoulder Wound of our Saviour.
It is related in the annals of Clairvaux that when the great Saint inquired of our Lord which was His greatest unrecorded suffering, our Lord answered: “I had on My Shoulder, while I bore My Cross on the Way of Sorrows, a grievous Wound, which was more painful than the others, and which is not recorded by men. Honour this wound with thy devotion, and I will grant thee whatsoever thou dost ask through its virtue and merit. And in regard to all those who shall venerate this Wound, I will remit to them all their venial sins, and will no longer remember their mortal sins.”
And further: “Reveal it to men and let it be known that any grace asked in virtue of this Wound will be granted. And to all those who, in memory of it, will honour Me daily by reciting 3 Our Father, 3 Hail Mary, 3 Glory Be’s, I will pardon them, all their mortal and venial sins. They will not die an unexpected death and at the last hour, they will be visited by the Blessed Virgin and will obtain grace and mercy.”
The above prayer carries the Imprimatur of + T. D. Beven (+1920; Bp. of Springfield), though should not in any way be regarded as dispensing the requirement of Sacramental Confession.
It is known that Saintly Padre Pio, who carried the Stigmata for 50 years (commencing in 1918 and disappearing without trace 3 days before his earthly death in 1968) endured also the “painful and sweet” shoulder wound, which he bore in secret. Stigmatists & Mystics Anne Catherine Emmerich and Marie-Julie Jahenny (in particular) received visions of the holy Shoulder Wound, the latter being told by our Lord “I will treat with a preference whoever will meditate upon this Wound … I will come to seek devotees to My Holy Shoulder. I shall comfort them at the moment of their agony.”
It is noteworhty that evidence of laceration and dislocation of one shoulder have been discovered on the Shroud of Turin.

Please note, I don’t think the alleged message given to St. Bernard is verified or Church approved. You’d have to research that.

Thank you for this website
Thank you for the many beautiful & meaningful prayers.
It appears that the form of this prayer has been condemned by the church. See: https://www.olrl.org/pray/apocryphal.shtml
because it leads one to believe in the forgiveness of sins without the necessary sacrament of confession.
An apparently acceptable form of this prayer can be found here: https://marie-juliejahenny.blogspot.com/search?q=Shoulder
which omits the offending portion.
Thank you for your comment Mary. From memory, the Church had a problem with the alleged promise which is typically attached to this prayer (and which is not re-produced here) though no issue with the actual prayer itself. Readers should do their own research.
It is a shame that the issue you raise, viz. “because it leads one to believe in the forgiveness of sins without the necessary sacrament of confession” which is in anti-Catholic in very nature, arguably exists in, or is inspired by, the ‘Polish Devotion’ which was condemned three times – and by two popes – within eighteen months before being formally embraced by the Post-Conciliar Church.
Readers may be interested to learn that Servant of God Lúcia indicated specifically in her last interview in 1957, at a time when the Polish Devotion was taking root and shortly to be formally condemned, and speaking of End Times as she understood them, that:
“… She told me … that God is giving two last remedies to the world: the Holy Rosary and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And, being the last remedies, that is to say, they are the final ones, means that there will be no others.”
And Sr. Lúcia continued:
“As for the Holy Rosary, Father, in these last times in which we are living, the Blessed Virgin has given a new efficacy to the praying of the Holy Rosary.”

The second URL that I entered was:

and not the one shown above, which has the same text for the prayer as your own.
You may also note that the first website I mentioned has discontinued use of this prayer due to vatican declarations, for which they provide relevant information.

God bless us, and the Virgin custodial us!
To you too!
Thank you Mary. The links you provided are most useful, and in particular the linked page therein to the Seven Offerings to the Precious Blood devotion on OLRL.org, which is traditionally prayed daily in July, and which can be also be found on this web-site, here.
This web-site will shortly be turned to ‘OFF’ though I will add your links to the Sacred Shoulder Wound page in the interim. God bless and keep you.
